Governor Murphy names Middlesex County as the Project Manager of the North Brunswick Train Station

Middlesex County, through the Middlesex County Improvement Authority, will serve as project manager through an agreement with NJ TRANSIT for the design and construction of the North Brunswick Train Station. A ceremony was held this morning at the location of the new station, on Main Street in North Brunswick

Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios, and North Brunswick Mayor Francis “Mac” Womack III welcomed Governor Phil Murphy, Department of Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, Senate President Steve Sweeney, Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin, along with State Senator Bob Smith, Assemblyman Joe Danielsen and Assemblyman Joe Egan from the 17th District, and other state and local officials to North Brunswick.

Part of the Main Street North Brunswick development project, this new station will reside along the Northeast Corridor Line and provide easier access to the region’s transportation centers. The station will also increase economic opportunities and investments for the residents of North Brunswick and Middlesex County. The next stage of the project will be to progress from concept design to final engineering design, which is likely to include a permitting process, which the county anticipates being completed within the next two years.

It was an afternoon of celebration on Saturday, October 28 at the Greene Turtle Sports Bar and Grille as Mayor Francis ‘Mac’ Womack, along with State and Middlesex County officials and the Township Council, announced funding for the North Brunswick train station at the Main Street North Brunswick transit village.

The State of New Jersey, through the efforts of State Senate President Stephen Sweeney and the 17th District delegation of State Senator Bob Smith and Assemblymen Joseph Egan and Joe Danielsen, secured $50 million from the state Transportation Trust Fund for the project. Middlesex County announced its support by committing to the construction of the parking facilities at the train station site.

Womack called Saturday, ‘a wonderful and proud day for North Brunswick.’

North Brunswick Station Included In $400M Transportation Funding

TTF funding to advance North Brunswick Transit Village – The signing of a transportation funding bill in the state Senate on Thursday will advance the new rail station project in the township on the Northeast Corridor line.
